Bookcase Styling: Version 12,000

I've been tweaking the contents of my bookcase since I've moved here. Hell, two apartments ago even! I futzed around with it this weekend....again.

First, the disco ball went out. Don't worry,  I'll find a cool place for it. When I started grouping my things together, I realized that it doesn't fit the common theme of white, black, and gold that most of my things were.
I also regretted throwing a lot of my books away in the move from FL. Just the sheer volume of the books was helpful in fleshing out my former book cases. Alas, no going back there.
As you can see, I've cleaned it up a bit. I switched out the disco ball for the black buddha that I had on my window sill to add more black into the mix.
I also framed a note I wrote myself a year ago that promised I'd be in NYC by 2011.
I grouped that with the Empire State Building ornament I got from Target three years ago (foreshadowing?) and placed those next to the mini lamp I use for reading.
I couldn't leave out the silver picture frame (already breaking my own rules) that my bff sent me when she saw on the blog that I needed some glam things.
The shelf below that is my reading nook and it houses the books that I'm planning on tackling (eventually). I tried my best to clean this up and make it look pretty but my attention span ran out and here we are.
BTW, I'm FLYING through the Stieg Larsson books. Has anyone read them?

PLEASE PLEASE send your suggestions. I definitely need to buy more stuff to fill the shelves but can anyone suggest something in the meantime using what I've pictured here? I'll collect your comments and do a post that summarizes all your tips!
